In an effort to keep up with the Jones’s, Ultimate Bet has jumped into the ring with the handful of other Mac-friendly poker-rooms –PokerStars, Full Tilt, and Party Poker having already made the plunge. So, it was only a matter of time before Ultimate Bet (the CEREUS Network) went after this growing market share.
Ultimate Bet also announced a No-Download version of its software for both PC and Mac users. The Mac version offers all the comforts that Ultimate Bet’s PC users have come to know and love: In addition to full access to the poker features, Mac users will also be able to utilize the single player blackjack feature from UB.
With the ‘Big Two’ –PokerStars and Full Tilt—offering Mac downloads Ultimate Bet’s hand was forced to implement their own Mac software; lest they fall further behind the two online poker giants who seem intent on gobbling up every online poker player between them – While battling each other tooth and nail to offer the biggest tournaments and best promotions.
The two industry leaders seem willing to sacrifice their own short-term profits by offering lucrative incentives that the smaller sites simply cannot match without going belly-up. Most of the independent poker-rooms have disappeared (sans Stars and Full Tilt) and have instead formed conglomerates to pool their player base between multiple card-rooms (some networks have 50+ small online poker-rooms operating on them) which seems to be their only hope to pick up the scraps leftover from PokerStars and Full Tilt.
